A ride-sharing service operating in New York from 2015-2020, which was acquired by Gett.
Juno was a fresh approach to ride sharing. Leading with values and putting drivers first. It paved the way for better driver treatment within the industry as well as better rider experiences.
Its refined, responsible, ride sharing has quickly proved to be a worthy competition to Uber and Lyft in NYC.
Team & Role
At Juno I’ve established and managed a small and efficient design team, while being hands on as well. The design team at Juno produced assets for both Product and Marketing departments in a company of 50-100 employees.
The main product interfaces at Juno were the Rider app, the Driver app and the Backoffice support interface.
I was frequently on the line between NYC, Tel Aviv and Minsk (where our development HQ was) to ensure that customer research results are in-line with our product design, and are reflected within the final outcome.
Rider App
The main challenge of the Rider app at Juno was to outrun the competition.
We had a couple of iterations before settling on the final creative direction for the Rider app’s interface.
We have learned a lot from users of ride-sharing services in New York. By using methods such as interviews, focus groups and user research we have studied carefully their experiences thus far with services like Uber and Lyft, to understand the pains and missed concerning the user experience. From there our goal was to improve, measure and iterate until we reached a good ride experience.
Driver App
The goal for the Driver app at Juno was to both create an easy to use interface for the busy drivers on the roads of NYC, as well as create an incentive for them to choose Juno over the competition.
Over the course of development we have used user research, interviews and focus groups to learn as much as possible about the drivers’ circumstances while using Juno as well as their state of mind while on the job.
The result was a clean interface, with traffic-inspired alert colors (red, green and yellow) combined with occasional delightful moments scattered across the flow to keep the drivers happy, informed and productive.
A small, strong team that can do anything.
When establishing a new design team, it’s crucial to me for each designer to have his own “superpower”.
When hiring, I pay close attention to the previous passions and strengths. So later on, I can help designers practice their crafts in relation to the brand as well as further develop their skills.
At Juno, we were a small team of 3, one of which was the talented Pavel Bolo, who apart from being an excellent product designer is also an amazing photographer.
With my Art Direction, Pavel had led the production of every single Marketing photoshoot ever made in Juno - and did an excellent job at that.
